Colorzoid - a free, javascript color matching game

Use the black selector square to move groups of colored squares around the board. Click to make a copy of the squares inside the selector, move 'em around the board and click again to paste them back down.

If you match up 4 or more squares of the same color you get points. Match 'em up any way you want but diagonals don't count. The bigger the match, the more points you get. Run out of gas and the game's over. Easy peasy!

You can click on the how to play button below or select how to play from the menu anytime for a full tutorial. If you've got an itchy trigger finger, hit the 'start game' button to dive right in!

Welcome to the Colorzoid tutorial!

During this tutorial, the game will be left on, running in the background so you can try out the stuff we're talking about. You can try it out now by moving the mouse around on the gameboard.

See that black selector square that moves with you? That's what you'll use to shift squares around on the board, make matches and score points.

Click the "Got it!" button to move onto the next slide and find out how.

Beware the goat

You earn points in Colorzoid by rearranging the colored squares on the board so that 4 or more squares of the same color get grouped together, forming a "match".

To rearrange the squares on the board you use the black selector square to outline a grid of squares you'd like to move. Click the mouse button to select these squares and then move the mouse around to position them where you want. Click the mouse button again to drop them into place.

When they drop into position, if a match is made, chimes will sound and the matching squares will float away into the ether. If no match is made you'll hear an annoying goat and get docked 100 points. Try it now. Hit the "got it!" button when you've mastered the art of the match.

Keeping score

If you can match up 4 squares you'll get 100 points. But more is always better, right?. Larger shapes are worth a lot more points. You can make all sorts of weird and wonderful shapes as long as all the squares are touching each other on one of their faces. 5 squares will earn you 250 points, a 6 square match is worth 500 points, 7 squares are worth 750 points and so on.

It may be worth getting the goat once or twice to position yourself for a big match. If you make a match of 7 or more squares, you'll hear a "yahoo!". Try it now and see if you can get yourself a yahoo.

Fill 'er up

It takes fuel to keep those coloris gears turning. Your fuel guage will drop as you play and when the fuel tank runs dry the gig is up.

On the plus side, every point you score adds more fuel to the tank. Score enough points and you could play forever! Or at least until your clicking finger goes into spasm. Plus there's a special fuel bonus you can get. More on that next...

The bonus board

On the top right you have the bonus board. Every so often a new bonus will appear here. Fulfill the conditions of the bonus to score extra points or earn extra fuel. The bonus will stay up until you manage to score it, at which point it will fade away to be replaced by a new one down the road.

Color match bonuses, like the one on the right there, want you to make a match using a specific color. Try matching up some red squares now. For shape match bonuses, you have to make a match in the exact shape and orientation specified. If it wants a 4 square vertical line and you make a 5 square line, you're out of luck. Finally, for the fuel bonus, a fuel icon will appear on the game board. Make a match using the square that has the fuel icon on it to score an extra 1/8 tank of gas.

Buttons

Look down. Those 2 buttons can come in handy. The pause button is useful when your boss is trying to get your attention or when the leftover egg salad sandwich you found at the back of the refrigerator is not sitting too well.

The jumble button is even handier. It can be used at anytime to rearrange the colors on the board. Useful if you're really stuck to find anything left to match. It comes with a 250 point penalty, though, so use it sparingly.

Master of the Match

Well done grasshopper! You have made it through the tutorial. Remember, you can select how to play at anytime from the menu to run through it again.

Press the big, honkin' start button on the right to get the ball rolling.
